DENVER, July 7 A man in custody in Denver may be linked to the slaying of Broncos football player Darrent Williams and other unsolved crimes, it was reported Saturday.

A federal court complaint alleges William DeWayne Clark, 25, belongs to a gang known as the "Elite Eight," the Rocky Mountain News reported.

Clark has been named as a "person of interest" in the death of Williams, a popular Broncos cornerback who was shot to death Jan. 1 leaving a Denver nightclub in a Hummer limousine.

The "Elite Eight" allegedly sold large amounts of cocaine and committed drive-by shootings, drug robberies and home invasions, said the complaint released after Clark's arraignment Friday on charges of drug conspiracy and distribution of cocaine and crack cocaine.

The complaint also links Clark to Brian Hicks, whose sport utility vehicle allegedly is linked to the football player's shooting, the newspaper said.

Hicks, alleged to be the leader of the Elite Eight, was in jail when Williams was killed, and his lawyer has said Hicks doesn't know who was driving his Chevy Tahoe.
