Beijing - A 22-year-old welder in north-western China died when his cell phone battery exploded as he was working in hot temperatures, a newspaper reported Tuesday. The battery exploded while the phone was in the man's pocket as he was welding at a factory in Shuangcheng in Jinta county in Gansu province, the Lanzhou Chenbao reported, adding that the death was believed to be the first in China caused by a cell phone battery. The June 19 blast broke a rib and drove it into the man's heart and he collapsed in a pool of blood, the report said. He was taken to hospital but died there. The manufacturer of the phone was notified and dispatched experts to Jinta to conduct an investigation.

This would mean that he had his phone in his shirt pocket which is quite strange in itself on a hot day and welding which is done in front of the person
If the phone was in a pants pocket i think that he would still be working but b still at risk

This is really bizarre news, since most batteries to warn not to expose batteries to high temperature, as it has a risk of exploding, but the actual chance of exploding isn't 100% at all.....
However, since the man is welding while his phone is in his pocket, it could further influence the battery into exploding.....
But the explosion ruptured his heart through his rib? This means the explotion is powerful, perhaps a better investigation should be made on this report....
