WALTHAM, Massachusetts - Novell Inc has announced that its Suse Linux Enterprise 10, the next version of the open source enterprise has gained considerable recognition globally just ten days into its release. In a press release Novell said that around 165,000 users worldwide have downloaded some component of the Suse Linux Enterprise 10 suite.
"We're thrilled to see that the marketplace is just as excited by Novell's new offerings as we are. It's gratifying to see the hard work of the worldwide SUSE Linux team and the open source community acknowledged by thousands of corporate technologists and users," said John Dragoon, the chief marketing officer for Novell. "With SUSE Linux Enterprise 10, Novell has delivered the only complete Linux solution from the desktop to the data center. No other Linux solution can match its breadth, functionality or appeal."
The company, which is the one of the largest distributor of Linux said that 286,000 unique visitors have registered with the Novell Customer Center website in order to access the new Suse Linux 10 tools. Additionally the homepage of Suse Linux has received 312,000 hits in the past 10 days.
Novell also claimed that daily software downloads from its website had increased 800 percent after the launch of Suse Linux 10. The product could pose some problems for Microsoft, which is readying itself to release its next operating System Vista. Suse Linux is easier to install and its system requirements include 256Mb of memory, 800Mb of disk space and a Pentium 3 500MHz processor.
