Hollywood actor-director Mel Gibson was arrested at about 3 am Friday for driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California.
The 50-year-old director of Passion of the Christ was driving at a speed of 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. On being tested for alcohol, Gibson's blood alcohol level was found to be 0.12, way above the legal limit of 0.08, Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Moore said. The actor was driving a 2006 Lexus Coupe.

“The deputy smelled alcohol on his breath. We arrested Mr Gibson on suspicion of driving under the influence, and we took him into the station without incident and we released him and gave him a citation. We will now prepare the case,” said Steve Whitmore, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Gibson was booked at the Lost Hills Station at about 4 am.

While being arrested and tested, Gibson is reported to have used abusive language with Los Angeles County Deputy James Mee. He asked the deputy if he was Jew and then in profanity-laced words said, “The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” He also threatened the deputy with revenge. “Gibson almost continually threatened me saying he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me,” a report prepared by Mee said.

On reaching the station, Gibson also passed a sexual remark at a female sergeant. “What do you think you're looking at, sugar t*ts?” he reportedly told her, a celebrity Web site that has published the report, said.

However, the sheriff's department decided to keep the report confidential and made Mee write another one minus the religious remarks to prevent the 'inflammatory' incident from sparking off 'Jewish hatred'. The department refused comment on the report, while Gibson's publicist Alan Neirob, through his assistant, said, “At this time we don't have any information on this matter but are checking into it.”

Earlier, Gibson had admitted his addiction to alcohol was a 'flaw' and that he was the kind of person who gets easily addicted to things. “I would get addicted to anything, anything at all. Doesn't matter what it is — drugs, booze, anything. ... I'm just one of these guys who is like that. That's my flaw,” he had said.

The actor was released on bail of US$5,000 and is due to appear in court. The date of the court appearance has not been set.

Gibsons outburst
By: John Allen , Wed, 02 Aug 2006 20:53:53 GMT

Even considering Mel was drunk, such ideas were in his concious thinking as they probably are for many other Americans. Why are such drunken outbursts noteworthy only when relating to Israel, if in fact, they are totally absurd?

mel's e.t.o.h. vacation
By: joe crowe , Wed, 02 Aug 2006 00:01:06 GMT

what is not addressed here in this forum is the
demons that alcohol releases

demons that exist in all of us, and at the same
time, exist apart from all of us

anyone who has drank 'one too many' (and that's just about all of us) has released these demons and said horrible things which gives us the 'drunkards guilt' the following morning

mel has shown great love for all peoples and would instantly forgive the same insults

hatred
By: Ellen van der Hoeven , Sun, 30 Jul 2006 00:28:12 GMT

The bombings in the Middle East already a DNA for hatred, why add to it with publishing what
Mr. Gibson said when arrested on one hot Friday afternoon ?
Remembering, Mr. Gibson's wonderful work
as an actor -- his early handsome years. How sad.
Dear Mr. Gibson, in yourvery own church, please pray for peace--- bring us a light.

I hope this is not true, Gibson has a major influence on many people. Even if it is, I think it's good that it was kept out of the main stream media. It could actually inspire some nuts to go on a rampage. I do think it's what one would expect from a religious fundamentalist, hypocracy and hostility for anyone percived as the other side. Gibson may be showing his true colors here.

Gee, Mel, I'm surprised you didn't say "The f*cking Jews own Malibu!"
Idiot.

Gibson was telling the truth, the Jews are responsible for all the worlds wars. Good for him, a celeb with enough balls to speak the truth, all hail Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson shows his true colours.
The sheriff's department decision to keep the report confidential and write another one minus the religious remarks to prevent an 'inflammatory' incident is wrong. That is suppressing the truth and missinformation! It will not cause 'Jewish hatred'. But, it will show the world his true nature and colours. A man of his stature must learn how to hold his tongue, or pay the consequences.
A sincere appology to the Jews is what is required here. Let's see if he is man enough to do it.

Celebrities are real people too. Just ask Pete Coors and Glenn Campbell.

Thank you for having the good sense and courage to publish the whole story! Some other media, e.g. the L.A.Times, studiously omitted Gibson's grossly anti-semitic remarks. Surely those remarks, coming from the producer/director of the world's most widely-seen film about Jesus, are a more important story than whether an aging actor does or does not drink too much. Again, thank you.

Police cover-up on M. Gibson
By: jon doe , Sat, 29 Jul 2006 17:02:02 GMT

An interesting angle to persue here is what various pressures were brought to bear on the LA Cty Sherrifs Dept to take the extraordinary step of keeping the original police report secret...they are public record.

IT GOOD TO KNOW THERE STILL OFFICERS WHO DO NOT ALLOW FAMOUS PEOPLE TO INFLUENCE THEIR WORK. YET ONE MUST BE CAREFUL WHEN ONE MAKE A CLAIM OF WHAT IS SAID UNLESS THERE SOLID PROOF TO BACK UP THE SAYING.
AS FOR MEL HE NEED TO LEARN SELF CONTROL IF THE SAYING IS TRUE.

COME ON MEL! WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?! Oh yeah... he'd take a cue from Bush and use the incredible evangelical resurgence in our population as a tital wave to incredible wealth and/or power, both abusing and humiliating the millions who blindly followed the single craziest man on television, PAT ROBERTSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I guess it's just another case of money and fame going to your head rather than that of the alcohol. Maybe Mr Gibson you do own Malibu...who knows...however, I doubt that you own it all!
