CHICAGO, July 1 An Illinois man who convinced his wife to take other lovers recently won a lawsuit against his competition after learning she had fallen for a new partner.
After urging his wife of 10 years to agree to an open marriage, Arthur Friedman, 35, learned she had fallen in love with one of her new lovers and promptly took his newfound competition to court, the Chicago Tribune said Sunday.
Filling a lawsuit under Illinois' alienation-of-affection law, Friedman sued German Blinov for stealing away his wife and was ultimately awarded more than $4,800.
The unusual case marked one of the few times such a case has not been immediately dismissed by the court and took place in one of only eight states allowing such claims.
Both Friedman and Blinov are now divorcing their respective partners, but the former's wife still cannot understand her husband's frustration with their situation.
"That's what he said would keep our marriage going," Natalie Friedman said. "That was exciting to him. Then he cries about losing his love? When I'm having sex with another person?"
