NEW YORK: Apple Computer is poised to launch a new iPod nano music player and a movie rental service in August at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference, according to Apple sources.
Several publications covering Apple Computer have come out with reports quoting sources that chief executive Steve Jobs will announce the new service as he gives his keynote address at the conference 7 August.
The report added that movie houses Walt Disney, Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros have signed for the video service and the company is talking to others. The service is expected to offer movies on rent only and not for owning. Apple had earlier been toying with the idea of a service to offer download-to-own movies.
The updated iPod nano will have higher capacity and will be available in different colors. It could have an 80GB hard drive.
Apple is planning a sixth generation iPod, which will have a 3.5-inch touch screen display. Though it was expected to debut towards the end of the year, the company has shifted the release to early 2007, because of some technical difficulties it had encountered, according to the reports.
