NEW YORK - Peter MacNicol, who hit big time as John Cage on Ally McBeal, is all set to join Fox's real-time drama, "24." The 52-year-old actor will be a part of 24 as a series regular, Fox announced Monday.
MacNicol, who also stars in CBS "Numbe3rs”, won an Emmy award for Ally McBeal in 2001. Fox said MacNicol would portray high-ranking government official in the series, who inevitably gives headaches to the series protagonist Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland). "24" is to begin its sixth season. The fifth one ended in May with Jack thwarting a bid by a terrorist-controlled nuclear submarine to destroy Los Angeles. Jack was supposed to reunite with sweetheart Audrey Raines (Kim Raver), but he was kidnapped and sent off to an unknown place.
"24" producers Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran have not revealed the plot this season. And it is unclear if MacNicol's character is the good guy or the bad one. MacNicol has also worked on The Batman cartoon as well as Justice League and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. He was also a guest star on ABC's Boston Legal.
Last week "24" collected 12 Emmy nominations and is on track to win a majority of the awards. The Emmys are scheduled to air from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on August 27 on NBC.
