Cotabato City, Philippines- An improvised bomb exploded Friday inside a parked passenger bus in a southern Philippine town, injuring five people, police said. Inspector Elias Colona said the Weena passenger bus was parked at a public terminal in Matalam town in North Cotabato province, 960 kilometres south of Manila, when the blast occurred.
Colona, the town's police chief, said the casualties were vendors milling near the ill-fated bus.
"The passengers of the bus have all disembarked when the bomb went off," he said. "The injured were vendors and bystanders. They suffered shrapnel wounds."
Investigators said the attack might have been perpetrated by extortionists.
Last month, three people were killed and more than 30 others injured when a homemade bomb exploded inside a Weena bus terminal in Cotabato City.
