Israel provoked Six-Day War, says former Dutch UN observer
|
|
|
Amsterdam - A former Dutch UN observer has said Israel was not under siege by Arab countries preceding the Six-Day War, the 40th anniversary of which falls Tuesday, and that the Jewish state provoked most border incidents as part of its strategy to annex more land. Speaking on a Dutch current affairs programme late Monday, Jan Muhren, who was stationed interchangeably at the Golan Heights and the West Bank in 1966-67, says neither Jordan nor Syria had any intention to start a war with Israel. Meanwhile, it was announced Tuesday that Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Verhagen will take 10 Dutch teenagers with him on his upcoming trip to the Middle East. The 10 are Christian, Muslim, Jewish and atheist. A foreign affairs spokesman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa the initiative was motivated to learn more about history but also about the challenges of multicultural society and peaceful coexistence.

What would someone say if he or she heard the following comment regarding our moral duty to protect Israel?
"We do not need 150,000 troops in Iraq to protect Israel. 15000 in West Bank and Gaza(on the Israeli side) will easily do the trick".
Would he or she think about it for a second or blurt out and expletive?

Today I can not bear to read about Palestine;it is like watching torture and I get sick to my stomach. How can the truth be told about Israel if Israeles' OWN or CONTROL the media? How can man have descended to such a low place;we are truly less than beasts.I love my country but I am so ashamed at my governments' policies. How to stop global madness? Maybe we
can not.

Actually it was the French and the English that declared war on Germany in 1939 not the other way around. It was also the French in the Franco Prussian war as well as Napoleon's march through Europe. The French intention was to rip off the Saar and the Rhineland after WWII. The Poles were successful in their bid, by stealing a third of East Germany, and ethnically cleansing the German population. This was all done with the help and collaboration of the sanctimonious Western democracies. Shades of what is happening in Palestine 60 years later. The only differnce is that the Germans were too weak to resist unlike the Palestinians who refuse to take it lying down. I wish them well.

"Stupity sprouts freely. It doesn't help to be Dutch!
You will have to eat your own words, observer; just like the Palästinians are eating their own words they gave in voting in HAMAS."
"Stupity"???
Stupidity indeed sprouts freely from propaganda fed respondents.
How does voting for Hamas in a democratic election make anyone 'eat their words'? Well only if the rest of the world punishes them for their own rightful democratic decision. (Israel is supposed to be a democracy, correct?)

so what? One observer has an observation and although it may be different than yours, your willingness to attack shows maybe his point has merit. The political climate then was 180 degrees west of today, as one oldster who remembers hostility, I say, your attacks say more than the article. get a life this is not an attack on the legitimacy of any country, just noting political climate, the first law of war is deceit, some even work for peace, what do you think of that? I believe and correct me if i am wrong, it depends which side your on.

I recently learned from an Israeli that it was the Dutch that provoked the Nazis in 1940 as well. Had the Dutch been more reasonable, countless lives that were lost could have been saved. Perhaps France could have been spared as well. So it is with Israel......
Mr. Muhren, why have the Dutch not been made to account for provioking World War II?

This is utter nonsence. This article is solely another attempt to delegitimise The State of Israel. The Arabs threatened and planned to destroy Israel pre 1967 war, historical fact. They lost. You dont see the Germans whining for Alsace Lorraine back do you?
l2read history not racist propaganda.
