Pentax has announced the introduction of a new Digital SLR camera, K100D today. The new model offers a plethora of features including 6.1 megapixels and a new hake Reduction (SR) system designed to shoot sharp quality pictures.

The camera is easy to use for all levels of photographers and is decidedly user-friendly. The SR mechanism reduces shaking when shooting continuously and does so by "oscillating the CCD image sensor vertically and horizontally at high speed using magnetic force." At the same time the speed of oscillation is adjusted in proportion to the estimated amount of camera shake. This in turn is detected by an in-built sensor.

Pentax also announced the introduction of another digital SLR camera called Pentax K110D. This model is an entry-level digital SLR camera and boasts of all the features present in the K100 except the shake reduction technology. Both the cameras have some common features, which include 23.5 x 15.7mm CCDs, ISO sensitivity up to 3200, 11-point wide frame AF, a 2.5-inch screen and a top shutter speed of 1/4000. In addition the K110 has a Auto picture selection mode and can adjust according to the quality of the pictures.

The Pentax K100D guide retail price is $699.95 and is expected to ship in July 2006, while the K110D sells for $599.95 beginning August 2006.

Some of the features of the new models (according to Pentax website)

·19 custom functions to personalize camera operations
·SD memory card compatibility
·Eight distinctive Scene modes to accommodate specific subjects/applications
·Choice of two depth-of-field preview functions (digital/optical)
·Choice of 16-segment multi-pattern metering, center-weighted metering and spot metering to accommodate various photographic applications
