TEHRAN, May 25 U.S. intelligence agents are trying to sabotage Iran's nuclear program with faulty parts, a report by CBS News said.

CBS News reported that a covert operation involving Iranian exiles and Russian scientists has been selling defective nuclear components or technical drawings to Iran.

Tehran is forced to buy its nuclear parts on the black market because of a ban on selling nuclear components to Iran on the open market, Kommersant reported. Diplomats in the Iranian Embassy in Frankfurt ship the acquired parts in diplomatic bags, CBS reported.

In 2006, black market parts exploded in a nuclear facility in Natanz and destroyed 50 centrifuges of uranium, Kommersant reported. Despite the covert sabotage, the progress in Iran's nuclear program has continued, Kommersant reported.

Pure Tripe
By: JOHN ROBERTS , Sat, 26 May 2007 13:05:57 GMT

If what you say is true, then it is indeed 'pure tripe' and just baseless propaganda.

But the real question is: how can we in the west make our media, as well as our governments, more accountable? Indeed, does 'western' democracy really exist anymore (if it ever did) when we can be consistantly lied to and manipulated with such impunity?

This story is pure tripe

This story is not at all true reportage. It is a hodge-podge of some real items and names wrapped in total falsehood.

For example, Russia is exempt for the work that they are doing for Iran and can sell them related and appropriate technologies; thus for these parts and sevices Iran does not need to go to the "black market".

The artcle cites CBS reporting: "Diplomats in the Iranian Embassy in Frankfurt ship the acquired parts in diplomatic bags, CBS reported."

To which I would like to ask: Has anyone seen a One-way pressure relief valve that fits to the low pressure side of a heavy water reactor (that is in the range of 1000 Megawatt thermal)? You would need a medium size crane to lift the "diplomatic pouch" for shipping.

As far as the mishap at Natanz, whether it happenned or not is anyones guess. And if did happen it still does not prove that the parts came from off-market. Mind you, even "approved" parts fail.

Then there is the strangeness in all of Iran buying parts on the "black market". Reactors and reactors parts are have to be close to unique to a given reactor. The one the Russians are working on has one through at least four different stage with four companies: Westinghouse (US), Siemanns (DE), Combustion Engineering (US) and now Rostoriexport (RU).

Only a person on the street (which is everyone, I am afraid) without any knowledge at all about this will believe that parts can be bought on the "black market".

This is just another propaanda piece to spook out the audience and cast Iran as wicked.
