Baghdad - At least seven Iraqis were killed Sunday when an explosive charge went off near the Shiite al-Zahraa Husseiniya mosque in central Baghdad, an Iraqi police source said. The blast caused damages to the mosque building and a number of buildings and cars nearby, the source added.
Meanwhile, senior officer Qassem Atta announced Sunday that the Iraqi forces detained Hassan Hadi Jar Allah, alias Abi Khattab, a leader of the al-Tawhid wal Jihad group, in the Tunis district of Baghdad.
Al-Tawhid wal Jihad is an affiliate of the al-Qaeda terrorist network in Iraq.
Also in central Baghdad, Iraqi forces stormed Saturday night a number of Iraqi houses in Haifa Street, arresting 10 Iraqi men and three women, the Sunni Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS) said in an online statement Sunday.
The statement described the detentions as being "immoral and against religion and all international laws," calling on the Iraqi and US forces to immediately release the detainees.
Haifa Street has been a hotbed of violence in the past few months.
