More than 2,300 Hong Kong residents protest the Bible as indecent

Hong Kong- More than 2,300 Hong Kong residents have lodged complaints about indecent and sexually explicit material in the Bible in a bizarre campaign to restrict sales of the Christian holy book. Hong Kong's publications watchdog has received an avalanche of complaints about tales of incest, rape, cannibalism and violence in the Bible since the website truthbible.net began urging people to file complaints. However, the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority said it will not act on the complaints as it considers the Bible to be "a religious text, which is part of civilization." Now the website says it may raise the issue with Hong Kong's public ombudsman on the grounds that the "abnormal sex and violence" described in the Bible is at odds with the moral standards of people in the former British colony. If the campaign succeeds, the Bible could technically have its sales restricted in Hong Kong in the same way that pornographic magazines must be sold in sealed packages and to only those over age 18. The motive for the campaign is unclear. The number of complaints lodged against the Bible with the licensing authority is the highest received since a magazine last year ran pictures of a semi-naked female pop star changing backstage at a concert in Malaysia. Hong Kong, which has a population of 6.9 million people, is home to around 250,000 Catholics, including Beijing-appointed chief executive Donald Tsang, and around 60,000 Anglican Christians.

I don't speak or read any of the Chinese languages. I think it might just be the language issue. Prudish and very moral grandmothers in the west are not complaining....unless they are athiest.
Hey, big brother China took over Hong Kong...voila Communism.
do the math.
God bless China.

I put this article anywhere :)
After Bible drawn into sex publication controversy, the Hong Kong's Television and Entertainment Licensing authority (TELA) has received flooded complaints calling the authories to reclassify such classical literature as Qur'an, Helmet of Shakepeare, Grimm's Fairy Tales, Beauty and the beast as "indecent".
On the other hand, the TELA were in critic for finacncial supporting a Christian organization, which had received half of total HK$5.7M that the TELA financial assisted from 2001, for the purpose of "promoting 'control of obscene and indecent articles ordinance(COIAO)'". The netizen thought that this organization take the abusing of COIAO to deprive freedom of speech of open sexual debate, homosexual as their usually businness.
The most widespread case of the Obscene and Idecent Tribunal(OIT) is that the Statue of Davids (Michelangelo) was classify "indecent" because his penis "were too big", but the High Court rejected this views later, in 1994 or 1995.
It is stupid to deny that there are some anti-Christianist seeking the opportunity to attack Bible, but the complaints is also based in the ground of the discontent to the OIT. Some Christain have launched a campaign called "Put the Bible in the storm-Let the saying of the God reveals the hypocrite of the speech-censorship"

A friend in Singapore once called her Chinese Bible "shocking" -- those who read the English translations may find that some of the more "Grass Roots" passages are softened by use of archaic language. Chinese language often lacks those subtleties. Still... the move to treat the Bible the same as pornography is wrong... in our opinion.
