Kabul - NATO forces in Afghanistan on Friday said they did not launch an air strike in western Afghanistan that according to local officials killed 14 Taliban and injured 10. Air strikes hit a convoy of Taliban fighters who on Thursday had gathered in the Bakwa district of the western Farah province to appoint as new leader, local police and administration officials told media. Several vehicles were reportedly destroyed in the attack.
Separate US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan also said they were unaware of any aerial engagements in the region.
Meanwhile, Afghan and coalition forces in the eastern Khost province on Friday detained five members of an assassination cell that targets Afghan government officials, the military said.
Credible intelligence led troops to a compound where a search revealed grenades, rifles and other contraband items that were later destroyed. No shots were fired and no one was injured in the operation.
