NEW DELHI, May 15 India says it has set a target of adding 14,000 megawatts in renewable power capacity over the next five years."Grid-interactive renewable power capacity addition of 14,000 MW has been proposed during the 11th five-year plan that began April this year," Vilas Muttemwar, India ' s minister of state of new and renewable energy, told the upper house of the Indian Parliament Tuesday. "Thus, by the end of the plan, grid-interactive renewable power installed capacity is likely to cross 24,000 MW or about 12 percent of the then-likely total installed capacity of around 200,000 MW, corresponding to a share of 5 percent in the electricity generation mix." He said grid-interactive renewable power installed capacity at the end of the 10th plan was 10,250 MW or about 7.75 percent of the then-total installed capacity of around 132,329 MW, corresponding to a share of around 3 percent in the electricity generation mix.He said the share of grid-interactive renewable power of around 5 percent in the electricity generation mix is likely to be maintained in the medium-term, through 2032."Renewable power is mainly private-investment driven and to encourage its deployment, fiscal and financial incentives are being provided that include capital/interest subsidy, accelerated depreciation, concessional duties and relief from income tax on profits made from sale of renewable power, apart from preferential tariffs for grid-interactive power being given in the most potential states," Muttemwar told lawmakers in response to a question.
