ROME, May 14 A Vatican official in Italy is trying to retire a conspiracy theory that the Roman Catholic Church is harboring details of a predicted apocalypse.Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican secretary of state, denies the church has been suppressing a vision of the end of the world said to have been revealed by the Virgin Mary to three children at Fatima in Portugal 90 years ago, The Times of London reported Monday. One of the three children later became a Carmelite nun and reportedly wrote down the three "Secrets of Fatima" and sent it to the Vatican in a sealed envelope. Two of the secrets made public reportedly predicted 20th-century world wars, totalitarianism and the eventual conversion of Communist Russia to Christianity.Bertone said before her death the nun, Lucia Dos Santos, confirmed that the third secret was the 1981 attempt on the life of Pope John Paul II.Copyright 2007 by UPI
