Activision paid a tribute to the classic rock era of 80s by announcing the development of "Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s", which will be released exclusively on PlayStation 2.
The announcement comes following weeks of speculation of such a game in development. To be released this summer, "Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s" will feature hits of various genres including "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister, "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls, "Round and Round" as made famous by Ratt, "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow, "Metal Health" by Quiet Riot, "Holy Diver" by Dio, and "Heat Of The Moment" by Asia.
Featuring visually stunning retro rock venues and hipster characters, gamers will be able to unlock guitars, intense game play modes as well as 30 brand new songs. Announcing the launch, Dusty Welch, Head of Publishing at RedOctane, publisher of the game, said that "Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s" has got something for everybody.
"The 80s features an amazing variety of rock genres from hair metal to punk to new wave, and our dedicated "Guitar Hero" fans will definitely appreciate the opportunity to play all the new and exciting content we've added. As we delve deeper into the history of rock, we'll continue to offer a fresh experience and even more explosive tracks with the Guitar Hero franchise", he said.
Welch also revealed that "Guitar Hero III" is being currently developed by Neversoft, and will be released later this year on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii.
