Vienna - A whole wedding party made off without paying at a restaurant in Villach in southern Austria last weekend, claiming bad service caused them to flee the restaurant, Austria's ORF television reported Wednesday. Before dessert was served, the bride, groom and about 30 guests suddenly got up and left the restaurant, reports said.

The restaurant owner filed a complaint with the local police but did not know the names of her guests. Contrary to normal procedures, there had been no previous discussions of arrangements. The couple had provided its own table decorations.

When the bilking newlyweds were tracked down on Tuesday they claimed the food and ambience had been awful, so they decided not to pay the bill.

The restaurant however argued that things could not have been that bad, as the main courses had been polished off by the guests.
