Hong Kong- A car number plate banned by the Hong Kong government for being too sexy is to be allowed on the road after a judge's intervention, a news report said Saturday. Hong Kong's commissioner for transport Robert Footman refused to allow the number plate Zestra because it is the name of a feminine arousal oil used widely in the city of 6.9 million.
Announcing his reasons, the commissioner said: "The Hong Kong community is generally conservative about sex, in particular sexual intercourse."
However, the makers of Zestra which wants to register the number plate successfully had the ruling overturned at a High Court hearing Friday, the South China Morning Post reported.
Judge Carlye Chu Cun-ling ordered the application to be reconsidered, saying that Hong Kong was "a mature and pluralistic community."
She said: "The fact that the population is predominantly Chinese does not automatically lead to the conclusion that the general public is likely to be upset by an open reference to sexual intercourse."
Car owners in Hong Kong are able to apply to register unusual combinations of letters and numbers as registration plates or to buy so-called lucky number plates at government auctions.
