Forty-eight or not, actress Sharon Stone knows how to keep heads turning. The sultry star can make the biggest fashion faux pas seem like the most fashionable thing to do. Who else can get away with wearing dark glasses in the evening?
Dressed to kill in a black Hollywould number, Stone walked the red carpet at the premiere of the
Basic Instinct sequel
Basic Instinct II: Risk Addiction in London on Wednesday fielding questions from the paparazzi about everything from the nude scenes in the new flick to her refusal to age to rumors of her shifting base to Britain.
Yes, she enjoyed seeing David Morrissey in the buff. “I was thrilled when he took his clothes off.” Yes, staying young is hard work. “I'm really lucky that I have a really good team. I'm lucky that I have nice people that I work with.” No, there are no plans of moving to Britain. “I'm so happy to be here because I love it so much. But I can't move here permanently because I'd kill myself in Harvey Nichols. I'd be broke in a week.” The answers came swift and smart.
The sequel revolves around the relationship of psychopathic writer Catherine Tramell, Stone's character, who faces psychiatrist Michael Glass, played by David Morrissey, during investigations into the death of sportsman Kevin Franks, played by former footballer Stan Collymore.
According to Stone, this film is much more steamy than its predecessor which starred Michael Douglas and is sort of a tribute to women above the age of 40 years. “In America we tend to erase women after 40, and it's a period when women become their most interesting. They are sexual in a different and alluring way. This film expresses that sexual allure in an unabashed and provocative way – in a way that is gritty and dangerous and quite presumptive,” she said.
Of course not every 40-something woman looks the way Stone does. Asked what exercises contributed to her youthful looks, she quipped, “People ask me this so much I'm thinking I ought to make an exercise video,” but added, “I've exercised a little but over a long period of time. I don't take escalators.” Was the glow coming from a special man? Not one, but two. “(But) they are under three feet (tall),” Stone laughed referring to her adopted sons two-year-old Roan and one-year-old Laird.
She also notched one up for Collymore, tipping him up for Hollywood success. “Working with Stan was so extraordinary. He is the loveliest, most chivalrous, most charming and most professional person,” she said. The two had a scare during the filming of the sequel when Stone's heel got caught in the car during an underwater scene.
“It was physically very difficult to be underwater for so long and it's also really daunting to have that drowning effect over and over again. You can't do that unless you are partnering someone you really trust. There's no one I would have felt safer with than Stan,” she said.
Audiences will get a chance to catch the action on April 14 when
Basic Instinct II: Risk Addiction hits the theaters.
