Tokyo - Japanese materials firms are looking into improving sales of energy-saving technologies to developing nations, Nikkei newspaper reported Thursday. The firms in the chemical, steel and cement fields hope to meet the growing demand for energy conservation technologies in Asia while facilitating the sales of Japanese-developed technologies.

More than 10 Japanese companies, including Mitsubishi Chemical Corp, have pin-pointed 59 technologies for overseas marketing through the Japan Chemical Industry Association.

The steelmaking and cement sectors also plan to do the same through the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development & Climate, an organization founded by Japan, the United States, China, India, South Korea and Australia.

Energy demand is expected to grow 90 per cent by 2037, a projection that led to agreement among the leaders of 16 Asia-Pacific countries to cooperate in energy conservation at the East Asia Summit in January.
