Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who are expecting their first child together, has denied a breakup report published in
Life & Style magazine, asserting that all's well in paradise. A February 14 report in the magazine claimed that the two have no plans of getting married and will split as soon as the much celebrated baby is out into the world.
“It should be known that the story is 100 per cent false. Cruise and Holmes are still engaged and are moving forward with their wedding plans, as well as planning for the arrival of their child. Despite the malicious fallacies put forth . . . the couple is looking forward to a long and happy life together as a family,” said Cruise's publicist Paul Bloch.
From jumping the couch on TV shows to getting lovey dovey in public, Cruise has done it all to assert his love for 27-year-old Holmes, casting aside his previous reputation of being a private man.
But a source close to the couple on conditions of anonymity told the magazine that the relationship is 'over' in spite of the two sharing the
Mission Impossible star's Beverly Hills home. “They both agreed that the marriage wouldn't work and they wanted to end it before they learned to hate each other,” a source was quoted by the magazine as saying. The two are believed to be sleeping in separate bedrooms till the baby is born.
The report also claimed that Cruise and Holmes are drawing up a legal contract to ensure that the two share custody of the child and that Cruise pays for the child and Holmes' upkeep for life. “They'll share custody. Tom will set up Katie and the baby,” the source said. However, the two will “keep up the charade of a romance until after their baby's birth.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for
Life & Style said it is sticking by the report. “We stand 100 per cent behind our story,” the magazine said.
Forty-three-year-old Cruise, who was earlier married to actress Nicole Kidman, and Holmes started a relationship in April, amid rumors that the show was a put-on meant to garner publicity for the two stars, who had
War of the Worlds and
Batman Begins scheduled for release respectively then.
Cruise popped the question to Holmes in June atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris, after which the two were engaged. In October, the couple's publicist announced that Holmes was pregnant with Cruise's child. This one would be both Cruise's and Holmes' first biological child. Cruise shares two adopted children – Isabella and Connor – with Kidman.
