LOS ANGELES - First Look Studios will be launching the official DVD series of the popular beach babes' saga "Baywatch." Towards this end the studio had announced collaboration with Pamela Anderson, who starred in the soap, which aired from 1989-2001.
The initial DVD's, which are to go on sale in the latter part of 2006, will feature episodes chosen by Anderson and the whole series will be released later on. First Look studios secured the license to market the "Baywatch" DVD's through an agreement with Freemantle Entertainment. Pamela Anderson will be in charge of promotional activities, marketing consulting as well as appearances at release functions.
"We are very excited to team with a mega-celebrity such as Pamela Anderson for the release of the 'Baywatch' DVDs, and we will tap First Look Studio's marketing and distribution resources to create a highly successful launch," said Henry Winterstern, the CEO and co-chairman of First Look Studios.
Baywatch gained huge international popularity for its depiction of the beach lifestyle in Southern California as seen through the eyes of a team of sexy lifeguards. Pamela Anderson played the role of C J Parker from 1992 to 1997 and has also appeared in several Baywatch movies including, Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding and Baywatch: River of No Return. Mr Winterstern said that her first-hand experienced would be an asset for the studio, "Pamela has continued to be a positive cultural icon for years, and she will be a tremendous asset in the marketing of these DVDs."
Commenting on the tie-up, Anderson said in a statement that she was amazed at the wide reach of Baywatch series and its continuing popularity, "First Look Studios and Henry Winterstern have been great to work with and I know it's going to be a lot of fun to get out there to meet the fans. I think people are really going to love watching their favorite 'Baywatch' shows," she said.
Currently, there is a big-budget Baywatch movie on the anvil to be directed by Eli Roth and it is being speculated that Pamela Anderson could make a guest appearance in the film. "The other producers spoke to Pamela about it and she said she'd love to do a cameo. For me, it just wouldn't be Baywatch without her," Roth was quoted as saying.
