Cologne, Germany - Mazda achieved its best sales results in Europe for 15 years, the Japanese carmaker said Wednesday in reporting its results for the business year that ended March 31. Sales climbed 6.7 per cent from a year ago to 301,200 vehicles, a spokeswoman for Mazda Motors Deutschland said in Cologne.
Germany remained the most important market in Europe, accounting for nearly 25 per cent of all Mazda sales on the continent, the spokeswoman said.
A total of 73,500 Mazda cars were sold in Germany in the 2006-07 business year. For the current year sales of 77,000 are envisaged.
In addition to Germany, strong sales growth was reported in Britain, Russia, Spain, France and Portugal. Sales also increased in Austria, Scandinavia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Mazda has more than 1,000 employees in Europe. Its European sales headquarters is located in Germany, where it also maintains a research and development centre.
