Budapest - Thousands of rabbits blocked the busy motorway between Budapest and Vienna on Monday after they escaped from a crashed lorry. Police spokeswoman Viktoria Galik said that 5,000 rabbits poured out of the lorry after it struck another vehicle around 40 kilometres west of Budapest.
Firemen and police officers were attempting to gather up the bunnies and load them into a replacement vehicle sent by the company.
Galik said that the motorway leading to Vienna could be closed for several hours and also warned drivers travelling in the other direction to slow down, as the rabbits could jump out onto the carriageway at any second.
