Singapore- More people are bringing illegal toy guns into Singapore in 2007 than in previous years, police said on Tuesday. There have been 21 cases so far this year, compared to 38 cases of airsoft gun possession investigated in 2006, a statement said. Airsoft guns are used in a recreational activity in which players participate in simulation of military combat. Owning an unlicensed airsoft gun is punishable by up to three years in jail and a 5,000-Singapore-dollar (2,900-US-dollar) fine. The latest case reported by The Straits Times involved a 57-year-old Singaporean who allegedly brought in 20 sets of pellet guns illegally. He was detained at Changi Airport after disembarking from a flight from China on February 14. He also had five bottles of pellets.

I strongly agree that people such as the 57 year old be taken into custody and be punishable by Law. They are people whom do not think of other's safety but earning as much profit as possible especially in this strigent law enforced country like Singapore. They knew that locals here wold be facinated by such products and fork out large sums of cash to buy exotic products.
It remains true the law is fair and just for the interests of the majority. Airsoft products have been profitable products in other countries for its close resemblance to real military hardware. Why dont the Law be more flexible and start importing such 'exotic' products for sale in Singapore? The Government can earn profits instead of taxing the people more. At the same time, people will be more willing to serve the country's interest more?
