KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 7 Gary Sheffield, Ivan Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson all hit home runs Saturday afternoon as the Detroit Tigers edged the Kansas City Royals, 6-5.
Sheffield had two hits and two RBI; Granderson had two runs, two hits and two RBI; and Magglio Ordonez hit a sacrifice fly for the Tigers, who have won two of their last three games.
Winning pitcher Mike Maroth (1-0) gave up four earned runs on six hits in five innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
Todd Jones earned his second save.
Reggie Sanders had a two-run homer among his three hits. Esteban German had two hits and two RBI, and Mark Grudzielanek hit an RBI groundout for the Royals, who have dropped three of four.
Loser Gil Meche (1-1) gave up six earned runs on eight hits in seven innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
