LONDON, April 7 Reports were murky, but it appeared the Germans won the world marbles championship at a British pub where the game has been played since the 16th century.
While the German teams were considered more practiced and serious about the Good Friday matches, the Brits had their eye on the case of beer offered for second place rather than the trophy that went to the winning team.
Marbling Web sites Saturday didn't have any firm results due to the steady flow of ale at Ye Olde Greyhound Pub in West Sussex, which is considered marble Mecca. At last report, the consensus was that the Germans probably won.
The Guardian reported that the international clash includes teams such as Black Dog Boozers, Miss Marbles Investigates and Only Here for the Beer.
A member of the German squad MC Erzgevirge told the newspaper that "marbling and beer go together."
