MILWAUKEE, April 3 Raw sewage was dumped into Lake Michigan Tuesday after heavy rains overloaded Milwaukee's sewage treatment system.

Metropolitan Milwaukee Sewage District officials told WTMJ-TV that flooding forced officials to dump the raw sewage.

"When you get a lot of rain very quickly, that can over inundate and cause problems for a sewer system," Bill Graffin, public relations manager of MMSD, told WTMJ. "When you get a long, gentle rain or even a moderate rain over a long period of time, we can capture those and not have any problems." Graffin said both of Milwaukee's treatment plants were "maxed out" by the recent rain. "There's 300 million gallons in the tunnel right now. We only have room for another 100 million," he said
