Buenos Aires, April 1 (EFE) Diego Maradona's personal physician hopes 'the hand of God' continues to assist the former soccer great, undergoing treatment undergoing treatment here at private Guemes Sanatorium.Maradona was rushed to the facility Wednesday due to a physical ailment apparently brought on by overeating and excessive alcohol consumption while he was staying at his parents' home.'I think it was good that we quickly decided on (the hospitalisation) because, if not, the clinical situation would have been different,' Alfredo Cahe told reporters at the hospital.According to the physician, Maradona has liver problems and also there has been a negative reaction 'to (excessive) alcohol consumption, (poor) diet and use of tobacco and cigars, so there are many things to attend to at the same time.'However, the physician ruled out possibility of hepatitis and heart ailment.'We are going to continue evaluating how the situation develops, but I think we'll be here over a week,' Cahe told the Spanish news agency.Maradona has battled cocaine addiction and obesity and spent various periods of time in and out of hospitals and drug-rehabilitation programs.In 2004, he was admitted to the intensive-care unit of the Suizo-Argentino clinic in Buenos Aires with lung and heart problems and was hospitalised for 12 days.A year later he underwent a gastric bypass operation in Colombia, lost weight and appeared to have resolved his health problems, but recently has put on a considerable amount of weight.
