A week after separation from actress-singer Jessica Simpson, Nick Latchey is already showing the signs of moving on by signing on for a Warner Bros sitcom that ironically has him playing a newly-married baseball champion.
Shooting for the sitcom will commence in March, said Paul McGuire, a spokesman for WB. Writing the sitcom would be Danny Jacobson, credited with creating the Helen Hunt-starrer
Mad About You.
Nick is a huge talent with a major following and Danny is a brilliant, seasoned comedy writer. We hope it's a good match. We believe in Nick,” McGuire said of the 98 Degrees star. Who would play Latchey's newly wedded wife is still not clear.
The irony doesn't end here. Earlier, 32-year-old Latchey and 25-year-old Simpson starred in
Newlyweds, a reality show aired on MTV. The couple successfully warded off media speculations about their marriages, only to drop the bombshell last week with a simple, “After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other,” through a joint statement. However, the only people perturbed with this bombshell seem to be the paparazzi, with Simpson also 'doing great', if sister Ashlee Simpson is to be believed. “We all had a great Thanksgiving, all the family was together and we had a wonderful time,” said Ashlee.
On his part, Latchey has also been spotted enjoying himself in the company of men and women alike. A day before the split was announced, he also came alone to the American Music Awards 2005.
However, Latchey's career is yet to show a major upward spiral. Earlier, he has appeared on
American Dreams on NBC and
I'm With Her on ABC. His first film
The Hard Easy also failed to have audiences making a beeline for the theaters. In recent times, the highlight of his career has been
Charmed on WB as well as
Newlyweds, which augured well for the couple and gave them fame.
After initial failures, Simpson gained recognition through her songs and was also appreciated for her role of Daisy Dukes in
The Dukes of Hazzard.
