LONDON, March 23 Nearly two-thirds of British adults over 65 suffer from high blood pressure, 25 percent are obese, and more than 20 percent are depressed.

The National Centre for Social Research and University College London conducted a comprehensive national survey of more than 4,000 people over 65.

The Health Survey for England 2005 also found more than half of both men and women report their health as good or very good, with proportions higher for those with higher incomes.

However, 71 percent suffer from a longstanding illness, and more than half said their illness limited their activities in some way.

Thirty-nine percent of men and 47 percent of women 65 suffer from mobility problems. However, by age 85 and older, two-thirds of men and nearly three-quarters of women have mobility problems.

Overall, the study found that those with lower incomes were generally in poorer health than those who are more affluent.
