HANGZHOU, China, March 21 FedEx Corp. will start next-day delivery in China in conjunction with China's Okay Airways, the Memphis package-delivery company said.
FedEx will launch the next-business-day domestic express service May 28, with time-definite service to 19 cities and day-definite service to more than 200 cities across the country, the company said.
It will operate a hub-and-spoke system, similar to its U.S. hub-and-spoke system, centered at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. Hangzhou is in the Yangtze River Delta region in Zhejiang Province. The Hangzhou hub initially will be able to sort up to 9,000 packages an hour, the company said.
Okay, launched as a low-cost carrier in 2005, is China's first privately held airline. It is 25 percent owned by Korean Air and based at Tianjin Binhai International Airport in Tianjin, China's third-largest city.
