Kuala Lumpur- Two Malaysian sniffer dogs on loan from Ireland helped police make a major seizure of 1 million pirated optical discs worth some 10 million ringgit (2.85 million dollars), a news report said Wednesday. Dogs Lucky and Flo, who had been flown into Malaysia last week, led trade enforcement officers to an office in the southern Johor state where they sniffed through locked doors and indicated to police the presence of materials used to make the discs.

The raid was the first involving the dogs since their arrival, said Neil Gane, an official of the Motion Picture Association from which the dogs were on loan for a month-long period.

Enforcement director Fahmi Kassim was quoted by the Star daily as officers detained six men, aged between 20 and 30, and seized all the discs.

He said it was believed that the discs were meant for export to neighbouring countries, adding that investigations are underway into the possibility of a foreign-linked syndicate.
