Update: 41-year old Oscar-winning Nicholas Cage celebrated fatherhood for the second time, with the birth of a son to his Korean-American wife, Alice Kim Cage, 14 months after they tied the knot in July 2004. The boy who is the first child of the couple together has been christened, after Superman's birth name with Cage being an avid fan of DC comics.
The actor's publicist, Annett Wolf confirmed the delivery of the baby boy in New York City besides his name as Kal-el Coppola Cage, while saying, "They are healthy and happy and it's quite lovely". It is not known where they got the inspiration to name the boy Kal-el, but it is very likely that Cage himself, who at one point collected Superman comics, might have thought of it. Though he has since auctioned off his huge collection including the prized 1938 pulp Superman debut for an estimated $1.6 million, Cage can now hope to raise a super-son.
Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola's nephew Nicolas Coppola “Cage”, who takes his own stage surname from the Comic superhero - Luke Cage, was himself slated sometime back to star in a Tim Burton “Superman movie”. But with the project scrapped later and traded for a remake by Warner Bros (releasing next year), Cage lost a good opportunity to relive his childhood fantasy and has chosen to play father to a real Kal-el instead.
Nicolas and Alice who are separated in age by 20 years, met for the first at a Los Angeles restaurant where she was a sushi waitress. The whirlwind romance ended in marriage, the first for Alice, but the third for Nicolas after his six-year marriage to actress Patricia Arquette and 3-month marriage to singer Lisa Marie Presley both ended in divorce.
The almost immediate collapse of his August 2002 marriage with Elvis Presley's daughter took fans and the industry by surprise, though apparently not taking much of a toll on Cage's prolific career. The actor who has 35 films to his credit also has a son of 15 years, Weston by a relationship with another actress Kristina Fulton. After winning the Oscar for “Best Actor” for his 1995 portrayal of a suicidal alcoholic in "Leaving Las Vegas", Nicolas Cage had been Oscar-nominated for his role in the 2002 film Adaptation and stars in the film “Lord of War”.
