Kolkata, March 17 The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing last Wednesday's Nandigram deaths in police firing, Saturday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Khejuri, a base of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).Ten people, presumed to be members of the CPI-M, were arrested by the probe agency during the operation.Inspector general of police (western range) Arun Gupta confirmed the arrests and said the arms and ammunition were recovered from a brickfield. The seizure included 370 rounds of ammunition, 10 country-made pistols, black dresses, helmets, two binoculars and a map of Nandigram. There had been allegations that the CPI-M cadres had joined the police force on May 14 to attack the Nandigram villagers protesting farmland acquisition for an industrial complex. At least 14 people were killed and 71 injured in Nandigram, 150 km southwest of Kolkata, Wednesday when police opened fire to quell mobs and reclaim the area they lost control of in January after unrest over acquisition of farmland for a special economic zone (SEZ).A CBI probe into the police violence was ordered by the Calcutta High Court on Thursday.
