It looks like ABC Network wants to give Americans a peek at what they are missing and what they could possibly have in another three years time. A female President.
It is indeed surprising that the world's biggest democracy is yet to have a female Commander in Chief. Critics argue that there was no woman who looked like she had it in her to command the country's respect. All that as mentioned could change in three years with Senator Hillary Clinton widely tipped to adorn the White House again, this time as the President. Whispers that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice could contest against her have been doing rounds for quite sometime now.
Whatever the case the next Presidential elections are poised to be interesting.
Perhaps ABC hopes to cash in on the growing sentiment that the White House needs a woman's touch. If so the show has intrigue and promises to keep viewers' enthralled. It begins when Republican president Teddy Roosevelt Bridges dies and as per the existing protocol his Vice-President Vice President Mackenzie Allen (Geena Davis) has to take office. The move is a reluctant one for the Muslim world as some opposed to Allen say, will not take orders from a woman.
This misgiving is voiced by Nathan Templeton played by Donald Sutherland who is amazing in his portrayal of an anti-hero. However, Allen does take oath of office and how she manages to handle the position thrust upon her and does she vindicate herself and her fellow women forms the crux of this soap. The fitting prequel to this show has to be "The West Wing."
Rod Lurie, the writer and director of "The Contender," has created "Commander in Chief." The White House sets are quite realistic and the camerawork commendable. The same is true about the background music, which seems to swell in waves. Geena Davis has rendered a magnificent part as the first Woman President and deserves kudos. Overall, an interesting show that is worth watching for how it will shape up.

Classification: Change the Channel!
Summary: Subliminal. I am not a fan of shows that have a political agenda. When I heard the name of the show and learned the premise, I could see the clinton's handwriting all over this show and I was right.
REVIEW: IF this were just a show . . . BUT it it is not. What part of the budget for this show is funded by the Clinton campaign? I know that the infamous Clinton staffers are part of the writing staff for this show, perhaps you should BILL this as the beginning of the upcoming Hillary Clinton Democratic campaign for the White House. I am totally against Hollywood trying to influence, subliminally or not, the political scene and I really do not want them using a weekly tv show to try and get a certain person elected to the highest office in the land. Will at least a part of the budget for the production of this show, etc. charged to the Clinton campaign fund or is this just another version of White Water?

I thought this would be a ridiculous show, badly written and not flattering to the concept. I am so glad I was wrong! I'm hooked, and will watch faithfully, which means the show is doomed. Something this intelligent surely can't survive. I hope I am wrong again...

I noticed that the phrase, "So help me God" was convently left out of the swearing in of the new woman president in your first episode of "Commander in Chief." I wonder who was behind this obvious caper? (Rod Lurie?)

Having watched some of the new shows on TV I watched this new ABC show last night in the New York/New Jersey area and I say Go ABC,this show is sure to be a hit and can only say that Geena Davis portrays a woman President with more gumptiom than male Presidents have done in the past and is a "no nonsense" gal that won't stand for anything to get in her way.
I for one in my lifetime would like to see a woman be president. I feel a woman would have more gonads than the men do.
