TIRUCHIRAPALLI, India, March 14 An Indian Web site allows followers of the Hindu religion to purchase prayers at various temples in the country.Saranam.com allows users to purchase a puja, an offering to a god, to be performed by priests at the Indian temple of their choosing, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. If you wish to make an offering, the god will accept it -- even if it's on the Internet, said Balaji, a Hindu priest at Sri Rangam, an ancient temple near Tiruchirapalli. The site was created by software developers Mahesh Mohanan and Mervyn Jose.Mohanan told the Post the idea came to him in 1999, shortly after he was married. He said his mother-in-law wanted the newlyweds to visit 15 Hindu temples for blessings. It was exhausting, Mohanan said. I thought it would be so much easier if I could just do it on the Internet. The company said it gets about 100,000 every year with about 200 orders filed each month, the Post report said.Copyright 2007 by UPI
