Contact Singapore, the agency which aims to attract global talent to work and live in Singapore, invited these students on an immersion programme
Singapore (PRWEB) November 30, 2009 -- 40 students from the top universities in China, Korea and Hungary visited Singapore recently on an immersion programme conducted by Contact Singapore. Titled "Experience@Singapore: Engineering and Technology", the programme brought the students on a 5-day visit to Singapore government organizations, top multinational companies and new upcoming developments in Singapore.
Some of the companies they met with include ExxonMobil, Shell, MediaTek, Qualcomm, TECH Semicon, Schering-Plough and Vestas. They also visited key infrastructural developments in Singapore such as Jurong Island, an offshore petrochemicals island; Biopolis, the research and development nucleus for biomedical sciences; and Fusionopolis, the science and technology hub.
The students also networked with search firms to find out more about career opportunities in Singapore. They found out more about the future development of the city in discussions with key government organizations such as Contact Singapore, the Urban Redevelopment Authority and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research.
"As an engineering student, I never thought that I would even consider working in Singapore, because to me, Singapore has always been a city famous for finance, tourism and education. But after this trip, I realize that it can be one of my options in future. I feel that it is something I have always been looking for - an international environment full of action, a multi-cultural society, and a key business center, which is currently one of the main hubs for global companies to manage operations in Asia," Jung Daeyong, mechanical engineering student with Yonsei University, Korea.
Another student, Liu Ling who is studying electrical engineering in KAIST, Korea learned more about Singapore's culture, "During our visit, we saw people with different nationalities working and having fun together. This makes Singapore truly global. Collaboration amongst people from various nationalities and cultural backgrounds also seems mature in Singapore. This is certainly good news for people seeking a global career."
