Stockholm- The Swedish car manufacturer Saab has announced that it is offering all models in the 9-3 range in a biopower engine version using E85 fuel with a mixture of 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent petrol. Compared to the conventional vehicles the biopower 1.8-litre engine produces an output of 129 kW/174 hp which is 17 per cent more than in the pure petrol version, according to Saab.
Three E85 biopower models were presented at the Geneva Motor Show - the sports sedan, sports station wagon and sports convertible. The biopower vehicles can be switched to normal petrol drive if no E85 filling stations can be found on the route.
Showcased for the first time in Geneva was the first production- based engine running on optimized pure bioethanol (E100). The Saab BioPower 100 Concept vehicle has a 2.0-litre engine developing 300 hp.
