NEW DELHI, March 12 India says it will be a surplus power producer in the next five years.
Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told the upper house of Parliament Monday that though the country has a 70,000 megawatt power deficit now, there were plans in place to bridge that gap.
Those plans include greater private sector participation, the construction of ultra mega power projects and increased hydroelectric capacity.
With all these measures I am confident that in next 4-5 years, the country will be surplus in power, Shinde said. The comments were reported by the semi-official Press Trust of India.
