NEW DELHI, March 9 Private major Suzlon Energy Ltd. says it plans to enter into the solar and biodiesel sectors in the next four years. Our move to diversify into solar and biodiesel would produce the right synergies with its existing business in the wind energy space, said Tulsi Tanti, chairman and managing director of the company. He said vacant land available at the company's wind farms could be used for putting up solar panels with a capacity of 10 to 20 megawatts. The solar power can further be connected to the provincial power grid. The vacant land could also be used for growing feedstock for bio-diesel, he said at a news conference. Tanti said the ability to produce biodiesel would depend on land and water availability at the farms. He said saving could be achieved in the new alterative energy business because Suzlon would not have to incur an additional 20 percent.Current power lines and sub-stations at wind farms could be used for transmitting power, he said, adding the company has wind farms across eight states in India and an installed capacity of 2,000 MW.The company has development rights on all its wind farms. He said the company was close to acquiring German wind energy firm REpower.Copyright 2007 by UPI
