As computing becomes cheaper, entertainment and gaming gadgets are getting more snazzier and expensive, take for instance the latest model of Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console that promises to be the most expensive game system in the decade after Sega Saturn in 1995. Early adopters of the new Xbox 360 who hope to experience its new wireless controls, will now have to shell by far more than before. But then if they see that they are getting technology that simulates reality to the closest, it is a bargain.

Announcing the pricing of the much-awaited Xbox 360 at the German Games Convention in Leipzig on Wednesday, Microsoft found the best podium to introduce the audience to the $399.99 (US retail) game console that packs a wireless controller, 20 GB hard drive, headset besides a cable to hook up to a HDTV. An economy version dubbed as “Xbox 360 Core System" without the superior features and a wired controller is also slated to be available at an US retail price of $299.99.

This version matches price with that of the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 at the time of their respective launches. Since both the versions require a hard drive, which is pre-included in the $ 399 superior version, users of the economy version may have to evaluate whether buying a separate hard drive makes better financial sense. Both versions however will carry a silver membership to Xbox Live online commune, allowing users to access live player profiles to send voice and text chats to them, and for demo / trailer downloads. The paid gold membership however will allow users to pit their wits against each other online.

The accessories for the Xbox 360 such as additional wireless controllers and a 64 MB memory card for saving games as a cheap alternative to a hard drive would still cost $50 and $40 each respectively. The Xbox 360 also offers custom styling accessories such as faceplates for latching to the front of the console to personalize the console’s look. Microsoft in being bullish expects the new version’ to capture the market with awe-inspiring graphics, audio besides online play. It also hopes to serve as an all in one entertainment device that plays CDs, DVDs, MP3s and digital content various storage devices, given that modern homes are cluttered with gadgets.

Expected to reach the store windows between November 8 and 24, the Xbox 360 is bound to make the tech savvy look into their pockets for big change or atleast open up their Christmas gifts even before Christmas in order to feel the thrills and racing pulses that realistic gaming offers these days.

    Xbox 360
    By: ez , Mon, 22 Aug 2005 00:28:59 GMT

The 360 will hold a huge advantage by coming out at least 1/2 year before the PS3 (maybe longer). By then the 360 cataglogue will be much larger and better. Sony will probably remain the industry leader, but Xbox will take more of the gaming market compared to its first system, and it will make a real push at de-throwning Sony.

Make money is on XBOX. Can't wait till I have the funds.

    The Console's Techno
    By: Dan , Sun, 21 Aug 2005 20:16:02 GMT

I've been looking at the console specs and I agree that the PS3 will have a slight edge in performance. But it will not show for several years because both systems have such high thresholds for performance that it will take years for developing teams to design a game for each system's max output.

    Console wars
    By: Nick , Fri, 19 Aug 2005 19:25:37 GMT

I have been looking over this whole console war and I think its going to come down to who ever has the best games even if Ps3 comes out to be better or just as good as the 360, xbox will be victorious for its wide variety of great games.

Ps. The Nintendo Revolution has no chance hahahahahahahahaha

Halo 3 will not have the same impact as Halo 2.
    By: Robert , Fri, 19 Aug 2005 18:55:04 GMT

Sony will beat Xbox with sheer technology. Microsoft is more interested in setting up in game micropayments, DRM and media control. People will revolt. Why should I pay an extra $0.25 after buying the game so that I coul unlock a special ray gun feature. Just as in the last wars, it will all come down to viewing the two side by side. Halo 3 will not have the same impact when Battlefield 2 is released on BOTH consoles. There will be many "Halo Killers" out there with this new technology. The key will be the best machine which will support the MMMOPG market the best.

HALO 3 WILL RULE THE PS3

I agree, but the biggest highlight of the X360 is a game called HALO 3!!!

    i have to get one
    By: don , Fri, 19 Aug 2005 13:55:10 GMT

this is the most amazing console of the next generation. Sony more than likely arn't going to live up to what there saying. Even if they do its still not going to match the games the xbox 360 has. I had a ps2 for years and when the first xbox came out i hated it. Then i played one at my friends house and relized it was ten times better than my ps2. Just by seeing all the games xbox 360 has shown so far (Gears Of war,Olivion..) it kills the ps3 as to what they are showing. They're games weren't even real at E3. And to be honest i still wasn't impressed with it.
