JINZHOU, China, Feb. 28 An overweight man from China's Liaoning Province died last weekend after playing Internet video games non-stop for several hours, a report said.

The China Daily said the 26-year-old man, surnamed Zhang from the city of Jinzhou, died Saturday after a marathon gaming session from what a doctor said was overwork and obesity. His parents said that he had spent all seven days of the recent Spring Festival holiday playing online video games.

The news of Zhang's untimely death quickly sent shockwaves through the area community, including those who spent the holiday doing similar pursuits.

I am a little scared after reading the story of Zhang, because I did almost the same thing like him, resident Wang Rui said. I also played games for such a long time that I could hardly find time to sleep during the holiday, he added. Dr. Meng Xianyun of the China Medical University told the newspaper that those who engaged in such an irregular lifestyle would likely experience an inability to concentrate and exhaustion.
