The realm of the make-believe Hogwarts School and Harry Potter has excited not only children but also publishers, who have realized the true power of children's literature. Just as JK Rowling is about to widen the repertoire of the phenomenally popular boy wizard with the release of her sixth book, leading booksellers in UK believe that Harry Potter has impacted publishing, tourism and business in a way that no other children’s book has done in recent times.
UK’s lead retailer of books, Waterstone believes that Harry Potter has contributed to a tenfold increase in the number of children's releases every month since 2000, contributing to a 2% increase in sales in the same category, which prior to 1997 showed a decline. JK Rowling has become a superstar of sorts, helping fellow authors by raising the category of children’s books to be important enough for publisher’s to take notice. Waterstone's believe that consequently new writers are being taken more seriously and given due recognition, with publishers willing to invest in bigger advances. They also believe that retail spaces are changing with more window room and displays devoted to children’s books, owing to increased marketing and promotion.
Besides Rowling, the authors who have benefited from the Harry Potter phenomenon include Philip Pullman and Mark Haddon, who are considered to be UK’s top-selling fiction authors, ahead of John Grisham, Dan Brown and Danielle Steel. A new category of books has arisen fuelled by Harry Potter’s popularity among adults as well as children, the crossover genre read by both. Even as “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” gets released worldwide at one minute past midnight on July 16th, it is expected to smash publishing records. Against the norm of 2 million copies sale for a popular book in its lifetime, US publisher Scholastic announced a print run of 10.8 million copies. UK publisher Bloomsbury, who is known best for Harry Potter books, has refused to divulge the size of its print run for the book.
Harry Potter has also helped the UK tourism industry like did Lord of the Rings for New Zealand with VisitBritain quoting its Harry Potter campaign as one of its most successful ever. Forbes magazine puts the worth of the Harry Potter brand at $1bn, three times over brand Beckham, which is notched at $375m.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is the story of Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the battle of good and evil goes to a new high. Rowling, who first conceived Harry while riding a train in 1990 said, “Harry just strolled into my head fully formed". Working for several years in the quiet moments while her daughter slept, JK Rowling had to brave poor interest from publishers before her manuscript attracted any interest. After the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 1998, the second and third books were released in quick succession in the spring and fall of 1999. The fourth book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, released in July 2000 became a major sensation, selling an unprecedented three million copies in the first 48 hours of release. With quarter million books sold across 200 countries and translations in 61 languages, Harry Potter might even reverse the dwindling reading habit of children and adults alike.

How come you hav't to make sirus die and dumbledore die? I mean why? Dumbledore is nice and all but why? Snape is now on voldermorts side? How did that happen? Did hermonie die? I didn't read the book i just want to know. But i am really interesting in it. Please tell me and ttyl.

The 6th book was ok but it wasnt the best, the best is still the 3rd one. The book seemed liked Rowling was rushing to finish it for some reason. It wasnt well thought out. But I still would love to go to a school of magic and wizardry like Hogwarts. If I had one wish it'd be to go to school at Hogwarts with Harry, Hermione, and Ron. omgosh i love harry potter so much!! ther the best books ever!!i read the 6 one in about 11 hours. I cant belive dumbledore dies and i guess u always new snape was on voldemorts side. aha i was reading in the car and then on a radio station it said "i kno everyones got ther nose buried in the new harry potter book but thers still music..." ahah i laughed. LIke the chick said above, dont let hermonie or ron die and let them date itd be cute. and let harry and ginny date after harry kils voldemort. i love harry potter so much i wish the wizarding world was real!!lol keep up the good writing and make the 7 book really really really long

ok first off I LOVED the book it was great. but OMG Dumbledore!!!! he's dead!!!! how could that happen!! I was crying for about an hour!! but atleast his picture is still in the headmasters office and he'll be able to give Harry and the Order advice from there. so I seriously doubt this is the last we've seen or atleast heard of Dumbledore.

I think that the hbp was a good book but i finished it in 5 houres so it went by really fast and although it was very good i was waiting for the rest of it. the ending was great but i really want the next one to come out soon because there was to much space between the last order of the phenix and the half-blood prince. The next book should be great!

Mrs. Rowling I absolutely love the way you write.Please ,let Ron go out with Hermione since book 7 is the last book , afterall. Also, let Harry date Ginny again in the lastbook. I think they make a great couple. Book 6 was wonderful I read your entire book in a day. I was very scared though , when Harry was being attacked by the Inferi. Please let Harry get revenge on Severus Snape. I always disliked him. I can't believe he killed Albus Dumbledore. Don't kill of Hermione and Ron in the last book please. Keep up the excellent writing. Your books are so interesting I can read 1 a day.

I CAN SEE A DEFINIATE CHANGE IN THE CHARACTERS OF THIS BOOK AND CAN'T WAIT TO SE HOW YOU PRECEIVE THESE CARACTERS.
I THINK THAT THIS IS THE BBOOK WHERE THE CHARACTERS START TO BECOME YOUNG ADULTS AND STAR THE RELIZE THE DANGER THAT THEY ARE FACED WITH.

i havent read the book 6 yet...but rumors said that dumboldore die?..how could this be?..he's d only one who will help harry to kill voldemort!..but anyway,who's tha half blood prince by then?..is it really hagrid?..i think jk rowling would be very much adventurous by the time she start to write the book7..im anticipating that sirius really dont die in that veil..but anyway,its just that im carried away that harry dont have any family anymore except her aunt,the sister of his mother...
oh..im really looking forward and yes! very excited what really the content of the book6...
please,publishers must make it fast to publish it and soon distribute it in asia..especially in the philippines....hope it would be...cheerrs!

At the end of book six with the note inside the locket with the initials R.A.B I think I know who took the real Horcrux R.A.B Regulas A. Black Sirius's brother who was a death eater he took it and remember in the 5th book when Harry,Ron,and Hermione were cleaning out the cupboard in Number 12 Grimmauld place they found a heavy Locket that they could not open.So he took it tried to destroy it and died just according to the note.

I was extremely pleased with the book. The story kept me guessing until the very last chapters. I was really upset and still am that that bastard Snape killed Dumbledore and had a hand in killing Harry's parents and really wished Dumbledore would have figured out he was up to no good. I can't wait for book 7 to see what's going to happen in the end that's for sure!

The book was most excellent. I finished reading it last evening. JK Rowling continues to do a stellar job in crafting these suspense-filled books. Incidentally, they are not just for children. I am 40 years old and enjoy them a great deal. Keep up the great work Ms. Rowling!

i think it is soooo mean of jk rolling to make dumbledor die!!! i mean she already made sirius die, why did she also have to make dumbledor die??!!! i mean he was the only one who could help harry fight voldemort, but now that he's gone, i REALLY don't see how harry is going to kill voldemort! plus at the end of the book harry says that next year he's now going back to school, he says that he's going to search voldemorts other lives!! i mean, how is he going to get on with his life if he didn't even finish school???? after he kills voldemort, if he kills him (which i hope he does, cause then the whole 7 books would make no sense if the end would be that voldemort wins) he would he a homeless man, because he wouldn't be qualifyed for any job!!
i thought that book 6 was the worst book, because dumbledor dies, snape goes to the dark side, harry goes out with ginny but then breaks up, and harry is not going back to hogwarts and ron and hermion too!!!
i REALLY want to see what jk rolling is going to write for the story in the 7th and last book!!!

I've just finished the book, it was so sad. I didn't thinnk that Harry's best protector would die like this. Anyway, the book was awesome, though. I couldn't stop reading it until the last page. I really like the way JK.Rowling discribes Harry's changing into adolescene ( as well as Tom, Hermione). It was really convincing.

i read the book but i am a little dissapointed.
ginny and harry are bfriend-gfriend and i was really lobbying for harry/hemione pull!!!
oh well. the book was not as good as the others in my opinion, because since ron/hermione were in a huge fight for 99.9% of the book it was missing the dialouge, chatting and just general joking around that jk loves writing and i love reading, BUT I guess its cuz they are getting older... :(
p.s. if i was at hogwarts i would be in 3rd year next year.

J.K. has amazing writting skills I mean the book was amazing and had you through supsence. I saw the death coming but after awhile you see it... I think it is her best book yet I mean it combines evil and good but yet the ending was terrible i cryed the whole ending... I hope everyone enjoys like I did^_^

im going to the library tommorrow morning that book better be there and if its not im going to go buy it im really eager to read it im harry potter freak ive seen very movie and read every book so far they are all great the only thing bad was the 3rd movie they skipped way too much i hope they dont skip to much in the fourth movie but the books are great and i cant wait to read the 6th when will tommmorrow come its so far away!!!!

I am eagerly awaiting the release of HBP. I am going to the B&N nearest me for a party and grabbing the book at midnight. I am disappointed about the length, but I'm sure JK will give us another exciting novel for us to read over and over again. Hopefully, the seventh will come soon. I just can't wait!

With the Harry Potter's unquestionable success, one has to wonder what will fill the vacuum left in the publishing industry as the series end. Will interest in children's books ultimately dwindle and return to its previously pitiful sales or would something else come along?
