Are you one of the millions of men losing hair? Rejoice! Help is at hand. You can now throw out those wigs and hairpieces and regrow your own mane.

Lexington International LLC of Boca Raton, Florida, has manufactured and is now selling a hand-held laser comb that promises to encourage hair growth on a balding scalp.

This comes as a result of over 20 years of research and studies by the company.

The appliance, described as a combination of a comb and a low-level laser, and known as the Hairmax Lasercomb, has won the approval of Federal watchdog, the Food and Drug Administration.

On Thursday, the company stated in a news release that it had carried out clinical trials for 26 weeks on people from 30 to 60 years old, at four different sites across the country and was now confident in the effectiveness of the gadget. During the study it was found that when the comb was drawn across the scalp regularly during the six month period of the experiment, the thick hairs of 93% of the subjects multiplied by 19 hairs for every square centimeter. None of the active subjects experienced any undesirable consequences that the placebo groups did not.

Lexington's chief medical advisor, Dr. Matt Leavitt remarked, "The HairMax Laser Comb is a method of treatment that can be of great help to men of all ages suffering from hair loss."

According to directions, the ideal situation is for a person to use the laser on his scalp for about 15 minutes thrice a week.

When the hair is parted and the comb is drawn across the scalp, laser energy focuses on it and not only encourages growth but also brings about the expansion of thinning hair follicles.

Bound to be popular, the gadget does not come cheap and is available over the Internet at LaserComb.net for over $500.

But, as Lexington International LLC pointed out, it is the only item that stimulates hair growth without involving any medication that has been approved of by the Food and Drug Administration.

Lexington is already looking into how effective the lasercomb will be for women users and plans to carry out further research into laser technology for the hair growth industry.

Dr. Marc Avram, a cosmetic dermatologist reacted by stating, "It is a new therapy that is not a magical cure unfortunately, but for some patients, it will be helpful to help maintain or re-grow some hair.”
