Looks like love finally got the better of shock radio jock Howard Stern. The 53-year-old radio host revealed on Wednesday that he had decided to legally bind himself to his 34-year-old girlfriend Beth Ostrosky, with whom he has been in a relationship for seven years.
Of course, knowing Stern, the 'will you marry me?' had to be shockingly different.
On Tuesday night, Stern proposed to a nude Ostrosky in his birthday suit with a 5.2-carat diamond ring. I love you. You're everything to me. I'm asking you to spend the rest of your life with me, the shock jock quoted himself as saying to his model girlfriend, who accepted his offer.
Later, Stern explained his decision to propose in this unconventional manner. It just seemed to me that we should be nude, like innocent in the garden of Eden, he told Sirius Satellite Radio listeners on Wednesday.
The 53-year-old self-proclaimed 'King of All Media', however, said that the wedding bells will have to wait as he is looking at a long engagement period, something of over 10 years. The radio jockey was earlier married to his college sweetheart Alison Berns with whom he shares three daughters. The two divorced in 1999 after 21 years of marriage.
Stern and Ostrosky met in 2000 at a party and have been together since. But the radio jockey had earlier asserted he wasn't going to get married again. I don't really need to be married. It's like we are married now. It could ruin a good thing, he said. Nevertheless, he seems to be willing to give a second marriage a chance. I'm willing to take the leap of faith to see if it works, Stern said. Now it remains to be seen if the shock jock goes back on his promise to not have any more children.
