Nairobi/Khartoum - Sudan's president said a two-day visit by his Chadian counterpart has put the neighbours, at loggerheads over alleged support for rebel groups, on course for normalized relations. Chad said Sudan backs Chadian rebels who have been attempting to topple President Idriss Deby for the past few years while Sudan said Chad is supporting the rebel movement in its restive Darfur province.
The nations cut diplomatic ties for six months in 2008, and Chad last year launched a cross-border raid into Darfur to pursue rebels who had fled there.
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes in Darfur, said late Tuesday that Deby's visit this week had helped "turn the page" on the disputes.
