Singapore - Tiger Beer is expanding its reach in Canada after its successful entry into the United States last year, Asia Pacific Breweries said Thursday.
Molson, the largest beer importer in Canada, is set to market, distribute and sell the brew originating in Singapore, which is now available only in Ontario and British Columbia.
James Wong, general manager of Tiger exports, said the deal gives the brewer access to a large market. Canadians consume the equivalent of 7 billion cans of beer annually. "That is 33 times the size of the Singapore beer market," Wong said.
"Canada is a market that offers exciting prospects for imported beer brands and one where we envision long-term growth," he added.
Positioning itself as a premium pan-Asian beer, Tiger is aiming to carve out a niche for itself in the North American market.
Tiger is available in more than 60 markets, including Europe.
Its breweries in Asia are located in Singapore, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka.
