Manila - The Philippines' unemployment rate rose to 7.1 per cent in October from 6.8 per cent in the same month last year, the government said Tuesday. The National Statistics Office said the number of unemployed rose to 2.71 million in October from 2.52 million from a year ago.
The employment rate also dipped to 92.9 per cent from 93.2 per cent, the agency said.
The number of underemployed people, or those working below 40 hours a week and seeking additional work, rose to 6.87 million from 6.02 million a year ago.
The agency said the country's labour force rose to 38.2 million in October from 37.1 million for the same month last year.
